چکیده

The removal of water from materials in textile industry and pulp and paper industries requires a high-energy consumption, increasing significantly the operating costs. Nevertheless, electromagnetic induction heating is an alternative with considerable potential for the thermal treatment of materials. Specifically, heating the surface of a metallic cylinder by electromagnetic induction has opened up a range of applications for continuos heating, pre-drying and drying of fibrous web. Otherwise, these news electrotechnologies with industrial applications have to be used under controlled operational conditions. The past few years witnessed a rapid growth in the use of fuzzy logic controllers for the control of processes, which are complex and ill defined. These control systems are inspired by the approximate reasoning capabilities of the process operator. The purpose of this paper is to improve and apply an digital control structure on the basis of fuzzy logic technique for the textile drying using a rotational cylinder heated by electromagnetic induction, manipulating the power supply to the inductors to control the exit humidity of the web. The proposed fuzzy logic controller was tested experimentally in a dryer pilot-scale plant and the results show the capability of the controller to reach the set point initially fixed at 20 g water/100 g dry fabric. Once reached the set point, continuing the trial, steps changes of the web-cylinder contact surface and the set point were done and the results shows the capacity of the proposed fuzzy logic controller in both perturbations.

The Influence of Machine Parameters on the Properties of Double Jersey Knitted Fabrics

The present work is an experimental account of the way in which several machine settings, particularly cylinder knock-over and dial-height, influence fabric dimensions, course length, bending behavior and load extension of fabrics produced on a circular knitting machine. The results show that there are certain optimum settings for such variables as knock-over depth and dial-height for producing...

Boundary Layers and Heat Transfer on a Rotating Rough Disk

The study of flow and heat transfer over rotating circular disks is of great practical importance in understanding the cooling of rotatory machinery such as turbines, electric motors and design and manufacturing of computer disk drives. This paper presents an analysis of the flow and heat transfer over a heated infinite permeable rough disk. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the elliptic Nav...

Convective Heat Transfer from a Heated Rotating Disk at Arbitrary Inclination Angle in Laminar Flow

In this paper, experimental data and numerical results of heat transfer from a heated rotating disk in still air are presented over a large range of inclination angles and a dimensionless correlation is developed for forced, natural and mixed convection. The measured Nusselt number over the rotating disk is compared with the numerical results. The goal of the present research is to develop a se...

Numerical investigation of natural convection phenomena in uniformly heated trapezoidal Cylinder inside an elliptical Enclosure

A numerical study of the natural convection of the laminar heat transfers in the stationary state was developed in a horizontal ring and compared between a heated trapezoidal internal cylinder and a cold elliptical outer cylinder. This annular space is traversed by a Newtonian and incompressible fluid. The Prandtl number is set to 0.7 (air case) for different Rayleigh numbers. The system of equ...
